The first thing that not enough people look at is when teams are playing back-to-back games. Basketball is a high energy sport and players will get tired easily when playing a second game in a row. This can lead to sluggish play and poor defense.
This is especially true when the team has had to travel in between the games. Also, teams that have older players as starters will be more affected by playing consecutive games.
Tired legs can lead to a collapse and defense and can easily change the score by a few buckets. This can be huge when you're relying on a team to cover the spread. In this scenario, it can often be profitable to bet on the team facing the tired team.
When betting the point spread, it's also a good idea to pay special attention to the numbers 3 and 7. There are considered key numbers when betting the NBA as more games are likely to end with the margin of victory being decided by 3 or 7 points.
This means that you are much better off getting a line of -2.5 instead of -3, or -3 instead of -3.5. If the point spread is close to one of these numbers, try looking at different sportsbooks to get the best line. It will add to your profits in the longrun.
